Introduction

When I was young, I found I can tell my mom only based on sound of her gaits. I was interested in such phenomenon. I think there is certain connection between gaits and identities. So this project is a exploration to find such connection.

This product is an elastic band with a buckle on the front, and a cloth bag with Arduino, sensors and battery inside. People can adjust the band to fit their waists. When people are walking in their own gaits with my band, they can hear beats that match their gaits. In some way, this beat can represent the person's identities.

Processing Arduino Bluetooth module Accelerometer

Prototype 1

I did a test about the position for the accelerometer. I put it on the right side of my waist and the middle of my waist to find which place is the best one to sense walking rhythm. I also wrote a program to graph my data of walking acceleration. Based on the results, I found that putting accelerometer on the middle of user’s waist was better.

Prototype 2

Final Product

I added a buckle on the front of my band so that people can know which is the front side. I put the accelerometer near this buckle to allows it can sense datas precisely. I sewed a cloth bag on this band to put Arduino, sensors and battery inside. In order to fit in all sizes of waists, I also added a stick tape on this band.
